Andrew Winters Announces Candidacy for Concord School Board, Pledging to Advocate for Rescinding the Middle School Relocation Vote

Concord, NH — Andrew Winters, a long-time Concord resident and local attorney, has officially announced his candidacy for the Concord School Board. His platform emphasizes balancing the duty to provide a high-quality education with the responsible management of public funds. Andrew is committed to advocating for a reconsideration of the decision to relocate the new middle school.

“The decision to relocate the new middle school to the East Side has sparked significant controversy, and rightly so,” said Andrew. “The school board’s choice threatens to dramatically alter the character of two of Concord’s cherished neighborhoods – the South End and East Concord. Unlike many public decisions that pit residents of one neighborhood against another, this issue has seen widespread opposition from residents of both areas. I believe it is critical that we revisit the idea of rebuilding the new middle school at its current location rather than moving it to East Concord.”

Andrew also addresses the concerns that many have raised about the financial implications of the project, with the current estimated cost of between $135 million and $165 million being a major point of contention among residents. He notes that the new middle school is being designed for a capacity of 900 students, while recent enrollment figures at Rundlett are less than 800 and have been declining each year. “While I am not committing to a specific dollar figure at this time,” Andrew said, “I will be among the board members to carefully review the scope and cost of the project."

Andrew has lived in the South End for more than a decade and has two daughters in the Concord school system, one of whom currently attends Rundlett. He first moved to Concord in 1999 to accept a position at the public defender's office, a non-profit organization. He has practiced law in the area since then and, in 2009, co-founded a successful practice that now includes seven lawyers. Andrew has also served on the Concord Zoning Board for over 10 years, a position he would resign if elected to the School Board. His experience in critical thinking, asking the right questions, and making tough decisions positions him as an ideal candidate for the School Board.
